| Sixty Artist displaying their works at the Art Elements gallery are all modernists – in their style. They are a healthy mix of the old and the new who intersect and share each other’s experiences in life. The common elements are colours and techniques.
Tota Vaikuntham, S.H. Raza and Jeram Patel fight for attention with Mousumi Riswas from Kolkata and Reameshwar Singh from Jaipur. Singh’s burnt paper and script technique gives his mixed media cancases a tribal look.
The motifs are traditionally from Rajasthan and can be passed off as antique art.
Mousumi Biswas’ Love Bird series uses photorealism to convey solidity. As a result, her frames resemble still photographs. A young Adonis is juxtaposed against a doorframe while the lovebird flies across a cobalt back ground – the sky. It is love trying to make a statement in acrylic shades.
Seema Kohli’s frames are like tapestries, knitted in rich hues of fold and red while Kamal Rana’s fire – on paper frames are exciting because it show fire in its creative-avatar-an artist’s tool. The burn marks on papers – from brown to sienna – serve as natural outlines and the colour palette, which are then cut to shape. The style is unusual.
Working hands – an assortment of sculptures showing men at work by Baroda based – Ketan Amin – brings out the different textures in art, which is now more functional than aesthetic. The show is the narration of certain experiences that an artist expresses and is dedicated to a cause. The proceeds go to an NGO. The prices of the canvases range from Rs. 1.1 lakh to Rs. 16 lakh. |
